Engaging Community: A Toolkit for Building Healthy and Resilient Communities

BMP partner Neighborhood Centers, in partnership with the Berkana Institute, have combined a how-to guide on the use of Appreciative Inquiry as a method of engaging community with other materials in a boxed kit called Engaging Community: A Toolkit for Building Healthy and Resilient Communities.  The guide includes:

12 Key Principles DVD – A presentation by Margaret Wheatley on the principles of Healthy Community Change, and an illustrated set of cards.
Turning to One Another, Simple Conversations to Restore Hope to the Future, by Margaret Wheatley. This book has 10 Conversation Starters, including: “When have I experienced good listening?” and “When have I worked for the common good?”
Unlocking the Strengths of Our Communities: A Step-by-Step Guide to Appreciative Community Building, by Neighborhood Centers Inc. Six questions that uncovered the strengths in one of the U.S.‘s most diverse neighborhoods and a CD of examples, customizable tools and agendas for community building.

Neighborhood Centers participated in a meeting convened by the Building Movement Project in June of last year on Service Delivery and Social Change.  For more information on the guide and how to order, please visit the Neighborhood Centers website.
