In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, Linda Campbell, one of Building Movement Project’s founding members, worked with service providers that struggled with shrinking budgets and increasing needs in her hometown of Detroit.

Since then, the work in Detroit has changed to take on a community organizing approach. Through the Detroit People’s Platform, Linda and Building Movement Project advocate around issues of land, food, transit, jobs, governance, poverty and inequality to ensure a just future for all Detroiters.

Fighting for Equity in Development: The Story of Detroit’s Community Benefits Ordinance

This report documents Equitable Detroit’s Community Benefits Ordinance campaign and strategies. Community leaders in other cities can use these lessons from Detroit in pursuing their own CBO campaigns.
