The Nonprofit Racial Leadership Gap in Central Texas: A Race to Lead Brief
The Building Movement Project has released The Nonprofit Racial Leadership Gap in Central Texas: A Race to Lead Brief. This publication is part of a series of regional reports based on the survey responses collected from over 5,200 nonprofit staff in 2019. The Central Texas brief offers findings from the subset of 2019 survey respondents who work in the Central Texas area and builds upon the findings of the main Race to Lead Revisited report. It also explores how leadership networks in the Austin metropolitan area impact career and funding prospects, as well as the effectiveness of nonprofit efforts to address diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
In particular, this brief offers insights on:
- Data reported by local nonprofit sector employees regarding qualifications and aspirations to lead;
- How leadership networks in the Austin metropolitan area impact career and funding prospects;
- Challenges faced by staff and CEOs of color, including economic wellbeing and organizational dynamics; and
- The effectiveness of nonprofit efforts to address diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
