On December 7th, the Building Movement Project (BMP) is excited to host a conversation about the Security to Wellbeing Framework (SWB), a new tool that supports service organizations to begin or expand their social change work.
The conversation will feature leaders in the fields of housing, immigration, and legal aid, including Adriann Barboa (Forward Together, NM), Hope Williams (Sustainable Economies Law Center), Micaela Oer (Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama), and Mileyka Burgos (The Allapattah Collaborative). The webinar will cover the current challenges, opportunities, and benefits each of the panelists has experienced in implementing social change work in their programs.
Joining the webinar will be Emily Rogers from the Independent Sector, a national organization that brings together changemakers across sectors to strengthen civil society. They will share the findings from their recent report, The Retreat of Influence: Exploring the Decline of Nonprofit Advocacy and Public Engagement, that highlights the steep decline in nonprofit organizations engaging in policy and advocacy, and the importance of these activities in addressing the most pressing issues impacting our society.
The Security to Wellbeing Framework is a visual tool that was co-developed with direct service organizations in New Mexico to challenge the tendency of some nonprofits to address the symptoms and not the root causes of systemic and institutional issues their communities face. The SWB Framework consists of a series of modules designed to support organizations to intentionally expand their capacity to engage in social change work, lift-up and center the voice of the constituency they serve, and deepen their relationships with their staff and broader community.
Nonprofit organizations, especially those that provide services to communities, are essential to strengthening a democracy led by the most marginalized communities. By tapping into their power, direct service organizations can play a critical role in changing the status quo and moving the needle closer to positive and broad social change.
