Building Movement Project and Solidarity Is are proud to announce the Summer 2021 Cohort of the Power Up Internship Program. Over the course of the next two months, we will introduce you to the twenty talented 18-25 year olds who will be interning at social justice organizations across the United States.
This program is designed to build out movement infrastructure by matching youth leaders invested in social change with social justice organizations, giving them hands-on experience working on campaigns, creating the opportunity for peer-to-peer mentorship, and providing skills and professional development training led by nonprofit leaders and movement practitioners.
Vicente Preciardo Blas Taijeron (he/him) matched with Asian Solidarity Collective. ASC is a grassroots organization in San Diego whose mission is to activate Asian American social justice consciousness, condemn anti-Blackness, and build Asian solidarity intersectionally with Black, Brown and Indigenous folks, people with disabilities, queer and trans people of color, and all oppressed communities. This summer at ASC, Vicente will support the Asian Abolition campaign and work with ASC’s youth committee.
Vicente Preciardo Blas Taijeron is an indigenous CHamoru from the village of Tamuning in the island of Guåhan (Guam). Throughout his years, Vicente has participated in numerous civic initiatives in his community and throughout the greater region of Micronesia. He currently serves as the elected Youth Representative for Tamuning-Tumon-Harmon in the 33rd Guam Youth Congress where he has spearheaded legislative policies protecting indigenous lands and bettering the lives of Guåhan’s youth. He is also a passionate activist for indigenous rights and is a member of the Fanohge Coalition (a Guåhan-based collective dedicated to cultural preservation). When he is not working, Vicente enjoys going to the beach, watching Netflix and cooking.
Vicente is a rising sophomore at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado and he intends to major in Feminist and Gender Studies while on the Pre-health track with aspirations of becoming an Obstetrician-Gynecologist. He is excited to participate in this year’s Power UP Internship Program and to expand his scope of activism and social justice reform.
JaVori Warren (she/hers) matched with Action Center for Race and the Economy (ACRE). ACRE is a campaign hub for organizations working at the intersection of racial justice and Wall Street accountability. JaVori will be supporting the Crescendo project, a collaboration between ACRE, Little Sis, and MPower Change, focusing on researching and campaigning against anti-Muslim corporations.
JaVori Warren is an Echols Scholar Alumna of the University of Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in both Studio Art and Government in the Fall of 2020. Throughout her undergraduate career, Warren served as President of the Black Student Alliance, Selections Tri-Chair for the Office of African-American Affairs Peer Advisor Program, and a member of the 2021 Cohort of the Meriwether Lewis Institute for Citizen Leadership. She is especially passionate about racial justice and working to establish a more equitable world order.
