We have important news to share with our Building Movement Project Community. On the eve of BMP’s 25th Anniversary and after 10 years of shared leadership, we will both be transitioning out of the organization this summer.
Though it is hard to leave BMP, we feel this is the right time for us and for the organization to go through a leadership transition. BMP is in a strong position and the next leader will have a tremendous opportunity to build on BMP’s work, along with the rest of our incredible staff team and Advisory Board.
A big thank you goes to BMP’s many partners and the larger community for engaging with our work, encouraging us, and trusting our leadership. Over the organization’s 25 years, we have put out over 65 reports (with more to come) and written two books. We’ve also published toolkits and resources to support cross-movement solidarity, racial equity in nonprofit organizations and community engagement. Together, we’ve watched each other, the organization, and the sector shift and grow.
When Frances organized a meeting with nonprofit colleagues committed to social change in 1999, the Building Movement Project was just an idea. That gathering marked the beginning of BMP’s support for individuals, organizations, and movements working towards equity and justice.
Having shared leadership at BMP and conducted research on executive transitions in the sector, we know that this change is significant. We also know that transitions are part of the life cycle of organizations and our departure makes space for new leadership. Please look out for more information on BMP’s executive search and how to apply for the position in the coming weeks.
We hope that you will continue to support the organization as we go through this transition. While we will miss our work at BMP, we are also excited about the future possibilities – for us and the Building Movement Project.
Sincerely,
Sean and Frances
