SUMMARY:Solidarity Semester: Spring 2021
DESCRIPTION:The Solidarity Semester is a free\, five-week online training school for emerging youth leaders (aged 18-25) across the country who are ready to take action for social change and are looking for ways to get involved on campus\, online\, and in your communities. \nWith extreme weather events\, the rise of anti-Asian violence\, deportations of Black migrants\, and economic turmoil happening as we continue to navigate the impact of COVID-19\, we are experiencing a crisis within a crisis. By building community\, sharing resources\, knowledge\, and experiences\, we can find our place within social change movements and shift from feeling overwhelmed to feeling held and supported in stepping into solidarity-based activism. \nThe Solidarity Semester will be an opportunity for young people – whether newly engaged or experienced activists – to learn about solidarity principles\, social change roles\, and current social justice campaigns. \nThe Solidarity Semester will kick off on March 24th and end on April 21st.  Our sessions will occur on Wednesdays between 5-6 ET/2-3 PT. These sessions will be broadcast on YouTube and focus on solidarity principles\, feature examples of campaigns\, and provide calls to action. \nOur Study Break sessions held every week on Zoom will be an opportunity to connect with other youth leaders and build a community of practice.

DESCRIPTION:Change starts with us and our families. \nRacism is a difficult issue to discuss\, especially within our own families. This Black History Month\, we are honored to partner with the Leadership Conference Education Fund’s “Black Justice is Our Justice” campaign to host #LeadershipConvos 2\, a conversation about teaching our kids to be leaders within our own families to combat anti-Blackness and racism. \nAnti-Blackness is at the center of bigotry and xenophobia in America today. Fighting all forms of bigotry in this country demands that we combat anti-Blackness and reckon with our ongoing legacy of white supremacy. \nBlack Justice is Our Justice. Black Justice is Immigrant Justice. Black Justice is Asian American Justice. \nJoin us for an hour-long workshop with activists and artists who will share their perspective on how to raise AAPI kids to fight anti-Blackness. The first half will be a conversation with our activists and scholars in social justice who will lay the groundwork on why “Black Justice Is Our Justice” and anti-racist parenting. This will be followed by convening the artists with the activists to discuss their lived experiences raising AAPI kids\, including celebrating Black History Month. DESCRIPTION:The Building Movement Project surveyed more than 4\,000 respondents nationwide about their current nonprofit job\, interest in leading a nonprofit\, training/supports\, views of leadership\, and personal background. \nThe findings from the survey challenge the way the nonprofit sector has been approaching the racial leadership gap.
