SUMMARY:Tools to Engage: A Deeper Dive into Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:Now\, more than ever\, direct service organizations are being called upon to advocate for individuals as well as for policy change. By integrating service and social change\, organizations can continue to effectively provide needed services\, while addressing the root causes that make services necessary. You may be wondering:¥ What would integrating service and social change look like for your organization?\n¥ What are some steps you can take\, no matter where you are in the process\, to more actively engage your constituents?\n¥ How can you build on skills you and your staff already have to make a seamless transition to policy advocacy?\nJoin us on August 29th for answers to these (and many more!) questions during an hour-long Tools to Engage webinar . In an interview with project consultant Judi Sherman\, Executive Director of SparkPoint Contra Costa\, Betty Geishirt Cantrell\, will share her organizationÕs experience of volunteering to engage in a Òdeeper diveÓ to assess their capacity to integrate policy advocacy into their current service provision and develop a plan for future action . YouÕll leave with a sense of what factors helped make this Òdeeper diveÓ a success\, how the process changed the organization\, and how integrating service and social change might not be such a big leap after all.

SUMMARY:Webinar: At the Crossroads: The Future of the LGBT Movement
DESCRIPTION:In our newest report\, At the Crossroads: The Future of the LGBT Movement\, the Building Movement Project explores how local\, state and national policy advocates and organizers see the future of the LGBT movement. Based on interviews and an in-depth survey\, the report finds that while leaders from LGBT organizing\, policy and advocacy organizations recognize the important gains and momentum made in the struggle for same-sex marriage equality\, they also see the focus on marriage as a double-edged sword. Many movement leaders want the LGBT movement to expand to include the full spectrum of issues that prevent LGBT people from obtaining full equality and fairness in all parts of their lives. ÒAt the CrossroadsÓ is an important report on the state of the LGBT movement and its direction for the future. Join our webinar to hear from the reportÕs authors Frances Kunreuther\, Barbara Masters and Gigi Barsoum\, as well as long-time leaders in the LGBT movement Rebecca Fox and Urvashi Vaid\, asÊ they discuss the report’s findings\, recommendations and its implications on the greater LGBT movement.\nUse our online form to register.

SUMMARY:Webinar: The New Lifecycle of Work: What's Next for Long-Term Nonprofit Leaders?
DESCRIPTION:As long-term leaders in the nonprofit sector think about life after they leave their current jobs\, two things become clear: They are not planning to move into traditional retirement\, and they want to continue to contribute to the common good. Based on the report The New Lifecycle of Work: Long-Term Nonprofit Leaders Prepare for their Future\, this webinar will explore the implications for all generations of the new\, longer work life and the various ways that leaders at all levels can prepare for and navigate this shift. The authors will review key findings\, which reveal that leaders often know what they want\, but are not sure how to get it or where they will land. They will also offer examples of leaders who have moved to a new stage of work after exiting\, in positions that offer more flexibility and less responsibility\, as well as answer participantsÕ questions about their own paths. This webinar is geared toward long-term leaders\, but will be useful to anyone in a nonprofit leadership position\, as well as consultants\, funders\, and other nonprofit staff. SUMMARY:Common Conversation for the Common Good Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join Project Team member Kim Klein on this free webinar as she discusses the role of Nonprofits and the Common Good\, as part of the Talking about Taxes series. Nonprofits need to see themselves as a “common good lobby” to advocate for the ideas that people are more important than profit\, that some things are simply not for sale\, and that our job is to “create a society in which it is easy to be good.” But how do we do this? And how can we incorporate this idea more fully into our work? This webinar will give some specific definitions and ideas. Grab your lunch and join in for a conversation about the common good!

SUMMARY:Nonprofits Talking Taxes - The Webinar!
DESCRIPTION:Join Project Team member Kim Klein on her upcoming webinar from the Nonprofits Talking Taxes series. Nonprofits are a huge part of CaliforniaÕs economy in addition to being the main social safety net\, the main source of education\, art and culture\, and environmental protection and preservation. Tax cuts have really affected our ability to do our job and impacting the communities we serve – we need to speak up. To do that\, we need to understand CaliforniaÕs tax and budget structure and the various reforms that are being proposed to fix it. By working cross sector instead of issue by issue\, we can exercise our aggregate clout with lawmakers and at the ballot box to create a state which reflects the values of the common good. Whether you receive government funding or not\, this is one of the most important issues of our time and itÕs time to start talking about taxes.

SUMMARY:Social Service and Social Change Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Like many nonprofit organizations\, service providers are committed to building the capacity of our communities to increase health\, safety and well-being. We know\, however\, that service provision alone will not solve the systemic issues our communities face. Luckily\, more and more organizations are building an integrated model that incorporates both critical services and strategies for social change. This interactive webinar\, led by Frances Kunreuther (Director)\, will include Building Movement ProjectÕs process for incorporating social change models into social service work; stories from organizations successful bridging of service\, organizing\, advocacy\, and client-leadership strategies; and reflection and dialogue about how these strategies might apply to your own work.

SUMMARY:Helping Nonprofits Survive a Crisis: A Webinar with Kim Klein
DESCRIPTION:As capacity builders\, we are often called in at last minute (or later) to help organizations get out of a crisis. What are practical realistic steps we can recommend? What are the benchmarks an organization should look at as it climbs out of a crisis? How can you tell whether something is a crisis or an endemic problem? Is it ever too late to help? In this fast paced webinar\, Kim Klein will take you through some ways to deal with crises based on her award-wining book\, Reliable Fundraising in Unreliable Times. (The book was the McAdams Book Award Winner for 2010!). Klein uses actual examples\, formulas and helpful exercises which you can use with your clients to help them survive and even thrive after a crisis.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: PACE Presents\, The Emerging Framework for Civic Engagement Evaluation
DESCRIPTION:Join Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement (PACE) for a conversation about how to improve the evaluation of civic engagement efforts. In response to the call for better tools for assessing progress and framing the impact of civic engagement\, the Building Movement Project (BMP) has partnered with groups like the Innovation Network to collect these new tools and uncover a useful framework for how groups can think differently about how to approach civic engagement evaluation. BMP Director of Civic Engagement\, Trish Tchume\, will be a guest speaker\, joined by Ehren Reed\, Senior Associate at the Innovation Network\, and moderated by Chris Gates\, the Executive Director of PACE-Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement.
