SUMMARY:2010 RISE Conference
DESCRIPTION:BMP Director Frances Kunreuther and Anna Dioguardi\, Director of Community Organizing and Development at Queens Community House\, will present “Social Services and Creating Social Change.” This workshop centers around a framework used by the Building Movement Project for helping service providers integrate progressive social change values and activities into their work. Staff members from Queens Community House\, a local service agency modeled in the settlement house tradition\, will share their story as a case example of how this framework has been applied. The workshop will conclude with a discussion about how to root this framework more widely throughout the sector. RISE is a grassroots collective of social workers and activists in NYC. Their flagship event is the RISE Conference\, an annual interdisciplinary conference where they empower social work students and recent professionals to become effective agents of social change. It focuses on coalition-building\, interdisciplinary dialogue\, and skill-building to transform institutionalized social problems.

It will inspire participants to embrace and celebrate the opportunities that change provides and rejoice in the progress born from change. “Changing our World” is a both a personal and organisational task that will require cooperation and collaboration amongst those already working to create a better community\, a better Bermuda\, a better world.
