Common Good in New Mexico
Written by Frances Kunreuther
This Halloween I was in New Mexico presenting at the New Mexico Association of Grantmakers conference with my colleagues Andrea Plaza executive director of Encuentro, Jenny Metzler head of Health Care for the Homeless and Alicia Maldonado (our Building Movement consultant). We were there to talk about the role that New Mexico nonprofits can play in building and promoting the common good!
We can see from our vantage in New York how the organizations in New Mexico can and do work together on so many issues. We know about the problems facing the state – and there are plenty – but we rarely hear how groups are trying to build a new safety net for those who need it the most.
One thing we are doing to tell the story of New Mexico’s nonprofit sector is asking groups to take a short confidential survey. The survey asks about the organization's work, the communities they serve and how they work with other groups and coalitions in state. It only takes 15 minutes to fill out, but will provide valuable information about how nonprofits in New Mexico are working together for the common good.
If you are a New Mexico nonprofit, you can take the survey HERE.
We started the survey last year as reported in Meeting Need, Making Change that explored how nonprofit service providers were faring with their budgets and the ways they worked in coalition to address issues. The survey tapped into some of the challenges that nonprofits are facing across the country. As one respondent wrote, "Every month is a dance to ensure we can provide high quality services to as many of those who are in need." This year's survey will again tell the story of the commitment to helping New Mexicans that is at the core of the nonprofit sector.
Please share the link bit.ly/NPSurveyNM with your colleagues at other nonprofits and take the survey on behalf of your organization before December 15.
Organizations that complete the survey can participate in a raffle for the chance to win the following prizes:
• One of three $50 Amazon.com gift certificates
• One of four free half-day trainings for one person from your organization thanks to the Center for Nonprofit Excellence
• One year of unlimited access to trainings at CNPE for one person from your organization
If you have any questions about this survey effort, feel free to contact Tina Law (email@example.com) or Alicia Lueras Maldonado (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
